The WARR Radio Station has its roots in humble but noble
beginnings. WARR went on the air in 1970, in Warren County, North Carolina. It started with only 1000 watts of broadcast strength. Vernon Steed, the local owner of what was at that time called, the Warren Theater, began the radio station with a partner, Jim Mayers, who was the owner of WSRC Radio in Durham North Carolina.
WARR has gone through a number of ownership transitions since then. The station’s most recent developments are as follow:
In 1994 ownership of the radio station was transferred to Johnson Media Group which.
In 1998 WARR moved to 109 Main Street in the town of Warrenton.
WARR was then sold to Quad Divisions, Inc. in 2002.
By 2004, the station was in a strong growth pattern and relocated to expanded studio space at 824 US 158 West, Warrenton, NC, where it is today.

In 2002 WARR was sold to Darensburg Broadcasting, a growing communications company, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina. At the helm of Darensburg Broadcasting is Logan Darensburg, a visionary that saw the fledgling station as an instrument with the potential to aid in community growth.
As CEO, his vision for the station was “to provide creative, enticing and compelling sound to the community and surrounding area. As a result, WARR is electrifying the airways with great music, good talk, and news and information critical to the communities growth and upliftment.

The goals of WARR
First, we want to inform our community with information that they can use to enrich the quality of their lives.
Second, at WARR we also believe that music is more than entertainment. The music is a sacred vessel that embodies the history, the objective, the desires, and aspirations of a community. Thus at WARR our goal is to play the music that will inspire our listeners to take on the great challenges that they face in their daily lives.
Lastly, the Goal of WARR is to be the servants of the community. The WARR radio station is actively engaged in the promotion of activities and community events that serve to build and enrich the areas that we service.
OLDIES BUT GOODIES-This old sign is from a newspaper photo file taken in 1972. The AM station now operates from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. pumping out the best in Gospel, Golden Oldies, and Rhythm and Blues.
WARR exists to serve the needs of the communities that is within our broadcast signal. We feel a tremendous obligation to keep the residents informed about the critical issues in their area. Moreover, here at WARR, we feel a greater duty to assist the community that we serve by improving the quality of their lives. But to do this effectively, we need your active participation.
We need your support. WARR can’t serve the communities best interest unless you are actively involved in listening on a daily basis and telling us what you think. It is important that you let us know how we can best serve you. You can do this by giving us a call at 252 257-5557 or simply filling in our contact form on the contact us page.

Darensburg Broadcasting is a family owned and operated business. The members of this community oriented team include his wife, Lilipiana Darensburg . Together what they may lack in broadcast radio experience, they make up for in decades of commitment to their community. His wife, who can be formally referred to as Rev. Mrs Lilipiana Darensburg, B.S., MRE, M. DIV. is also the Executive Director of the Darensburg Foundation. In addition, Mrs Darensburg is a teacher and formerly taught at Pinkston Street Elementary
The WARR Radio Station is more that just another radio station. We like to think of this small, but noble, broadcasting station in the center of Warrenton, as a model of community teamwork. We demonstrate what can be achieved when a communication company, community residents and the educational system teams together to form something greater than themselves.
